Foot orthotic treatment at Dorridge Chiropractic clinic
Orthotics are designed to support your feet and in doing so ensure that the normal biomechanics of the lower limb are maintained while walking, running and playing sport.
Given the average person covers approximately 115,000 miles in a lifetime, correct foot and lower limb function is important to avoid injury. Orthotics have been found useful in the treatment of foot, knee, hip and low back pain.
Foot orthotics come in two main types:
- prefabricated - off the shelf orthotics that are made to fit the generic foot.
- custom made orthotics that are specifically made for your foot.
These can be subdivided into:
- functional; where they are designed to alter / correct foot function, and
- accommodative; which allow the same foot function but provides better support and comfort.
The chiropractors at Dorridge Chiropractic Clinic can fit custom made orthotics called Biothotics. They can also recommend prefabricated orthotics or shoes that have a built in orthotic correction.
